The World Association for Veterinary Dermatology (WAVD) would like to announce that applications for the Peter Irhke Scholarship for 2024 are now open.
The WAVD Peter Irhke Scholarship honours the life and career of Professor Peter Irhke by providing a scholarship to commemorate his contribution to the discipline of veterinary dermatology. Peter was the Chief of Veterinary Dermatology at the University of California-Davis (UCD) Veterinary School and he inspired the careers of many key members of our global discipline by training and mentoring residents. He was also highly motivated to support the growth and development of veterinary dermatology amongst veterinarians denied the privilege of ready access to continuing education.
This scholarship provides the opportunity for an individual from an under-privileged region to attend a two-to-four week externship at the veterinary dermatology service of the UCD Veterinary School. The scholarship is fully funded by the WAVD and will contribute from 6000 to 8000 US dollars to fund a low cost, return economy airfare, modest accommodation and a meal allowance for two to four weeks and professional liability insurance.
Dr Veronica Pareja from Ecuador and Dr Sabrina Costa from Brazil are past recipients of the 2017 and 2018 Peter Irhke Scholarship. Both individuals report that the experience was life-changing. Visit the WAVD website to read more detail about their experiences.
Please submit your application using the application form available on the WAVD website. All applications must be written in English. Applications open on July 1, 2023. The closing date for applications will be September 30, 2023 and the award ratified by the WAVD Administrative Committee by December 1, 2023.
The successful 2024 scholarship recipient will be announced at the WCVD10 Opening Ceremony.
