Accredited: 1996
ECVD is a veterinary specialty organisation which was established in 1991 by members of the European Society of Veterinary Dermatology (ESVD) and was accredited in 1996 by the European Veterinary Specialisation Board (EBVS).
The objectives of the College are to advance veterinary dermatology in Europe and increase the competence of those who practice in this field. The ECVD has established guidelines for post-graduate education and experience prerequisite to becoming a specialist in the field of veterinary dermatology and examines and certifies veterinarians as specialists in veterinary dermatology. It encourages research and other contributions to knowledge relating to the pathogenesis, diagnosis, therapy, prevention and the control of diseases affecting the skin of animals and promotes communication and dissemination of this knowledge.
The College is governed and administered according to the ECVD constitution and by-laws by the ECVD Board, which is maintained by elections held at the Annual General Meeting of the College.
The ECVD is empowered to examine qualified candidates and confer Diplomate (board certification) status in veterinary dermatology. Board certification requires completion of an approved residency training program, an original research project, publication in a scientific journal, and successful completion of the certification examination.
All members of the ECVD are required to pass the ECVD examination. An Education Committee evaluates and approves residency programs, and an Examination Committee is responsible for constructing and validating the examinations with the authority of the ECVD Board.
