At the recent 4th Latin American Congress of Veterinary Dermatology, the awarding of de facto Diplomat status to the new members of the Latin American College of Veterinary Dermatology (LACVD) was celebrated. Seventeen new diplomats were awarded this status at the opening ceremony in the fabulous Peon Contreras Theatre of Merida followed by a presentation of the Don Giovanni opera by the Yucetan Symphony Orchestra.

The World Association for Veterinary Dermatology (WAVD) is proud to report that eleven of these de facto diplomats were WAVD scholarship recipients for attendance at either or both WCVD7 in Vancouver or WCVD8 in Bordeaux. This is a reflection of the commitment that WAVD has made to the global development of veterinary dermatology and we are very proud of these individuals. The Chair of the Scholarship committee, Dr. Mandy Burrows was present at the ceremony and said “this is a milestone event for veterinary dermatology in Latin America. The WAVD are very pleased to have been able to support the achievements of eleven of the first de facto Diplomats of the Latin American College. We are looking forward to sharing the future with these people as they develop their College and train the next generation of veterinary dermatologists.”

WAVD has a mission to promote development of veterinary dermatology worldwide; our scholarship scheme has provided financial support for over sixty individuals from many geographic locations to attend the World Congresses and all our scholarship recipients have undertaken to advance veterinary dermatology in their geographic region.
