Dermatology Chapter of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (DCANZCVS)

The Dermatology Chapter of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (DCANZCVS) was founded in 2002. The Chapter aims to promote excellence in dermatology of all animal species.

The chapter is actively involved in collaboration with veterinary teaching institutions in Australia and New Zealand to develop appropriate and professional teaching programs in order to produce graduates with a higher standard of competency and training in veterinary dermatology.

The ANZCVS was originally established in 1971 with the aim of providing specialist professional qualifications to veterinarians of superior competence in Australia and New Zealand. The Council of the ANZCVS approved the formation of the Chapter in Veterinary Dermatology in October 2002. The Dermatology Chapter does not currently offer a Membership examination in Veterinary Dermatology and therefore our membership is comprised of individuals who have either successfully completed the Fellowship examination in Veterinary Dermatology or an equivalent specialist degree; dermatology residents enrolled in Fellowship residency training programs that have completed a Membership Examination in another related subject area, usually Small Animal Medicine or members of other Chapters of the ANZCVS (pathology, small animal medicine) who have a specific interest in veterinary dermatology.

The ANZCVS, as part of its strategic plan has underscored the importance of seeking global recognition for the Fellowship qualification with the ultimate aim of reciprocal recognition in both America and Europe. Currently the ECVD accepts applications from Fellows in Veterinary Dermatology of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Dermatology for admission to the ECVD while those individuals are permanently working in Europe.

The current President of the Dermatology Chapter is Dr Linda Vogelnest; the current Secretary is Dr Karyn Wesselingh and the current Treasurer is Dr David Robson.
